Our Services
WHAT IS eTA?
It’s an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. The eTA is electronically linked to your passport and is typically valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you renew your passport, you’ll need to apply for a new eTA.
With a valid eTA, you have the flexibility to travel to Canada as often as you wish for short stays, usually up to six months at a time. It’s important to note that an eTA is not required for travel within Canada; it’s specifically for air travel to Canada.
Your Key to Canada
While an eTA provides you with the gateway to Canada, it’s crucial to understand that it doesn’t guarantee entry into the country. Upon your arrival, a border services officer will review your passport and other relevant documents. You must convince the officer that you are eligible for entry into Canada.
Who Needs an eTA?
The eTA requirement depends on your nationality and travel plans. Here are the key categories of travellers:
Travellers who need an eTA: Visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through a Canadian airport must have an eTA. However, if you’re arriving in Canada by car, bus, train, or boat (including cruise ships), an eTA is not required.
Travellers who may be eligible to apply for an eTA: Citizens from select visa-required countries have the option to apply for an eTA instead of a traditional visa. However, these travellers must obtain a visitor visa when arriving in Canada by land or sea.
Travellers who cannot apply for an eTA and need alternative identification: Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, require a valid Canadian passport. Canadian permanent residents need a valid permanent resident card or travel document. Lawful permanent residents of the United States and certain other nationalities must follow specific identification requirements.
Travellers exempt from the eTA requirement: U.S. citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement, but they must carry proper identification such as a valid U.S. passport. Lawful permanent residents of the United States with valid status are also exempt but must carry specific documents and valid passports.
